No Shot, No Drill, No Fear Dentistry

Laser dentistry may be one of the most exciting breakthroughs in recent history, eliminating many of the components of dentistry that have caused patients dental anxiety. Waterlase Lasers have the ability to remove decay, numb the tooth, sterilize treatment areas, and shape tissue. We can often eliminate the use of needles, drills and sharp instruments that were once a must in previous techniques. At the Center For Contemporary Dentistry we use laser dentistry for both hard and soft tissue procedures.

How Laser Dentistry Works

Soft Tissue

The lasers used are narrow beams of light energy that can penetrate the tissue, producing the ability to vaporize, remove or shape soft tissues such as the gums, cheeks and tongue. Laser dentistry can be used to correct many problems- from uncovering partially erupted wisdom teeth to removing lip pulls in orthodontic patients.

Hard Tissue

Lasers can also numb your tooth and penetrate hard tissue to remove decay without the need for a drill or shot.

Lasers can also obtain small tissue samples in biopsy procedures to detect lesions or potential tumors in the mouth.

Advantages & Benefits Of Laser Dentistry

Using laser dentistry as opposed to other forms of surgery has its advantages. With lasers we can reduce and control the amount of bleeding during the treatment and can sometimes remove gum tissue without causing any bleeding at all. In laser dentistry there may also be less swelling and reduced pain following the surgery as the laser can seal blood vessels and nerve endings.

Laser Dentistry Is Virtually Painless and More Natural*

Primary causes of pain associated with traditional dentistry is often heat, vibration and pressure. Since cutting with the laser does not generate heat, vibration or pressure, many dental procedures can be performed nearly pain-free; with fewer shots necessary, if any at all. Additionally, using the laser for gum procedures reduces bleeding, post-operative pain, swelling and the need for pain medication in many cases. It’s just a better way to get your dentistry done!

Increased Accuracy & Precision

By using the laser we are able to remove decay, bone and gum tissue accurately and with precision, all while leaving the surrounding areas of your smile unaffected. This conserves more of the precious tooth structure you were born with, helping you to maintain your natural teeth longer!

Reduced Dental Trauma

Dental drills can cause very small hairline cracks and fractures in the teeth that sometimes lead to future dental problems. Because the laser never touches the tooth it reduces damage to healthy portions, minimizing trauma and the risk of future dental problems.

Less Bleeding & Swelling

Because the use of the laser offers conservative cutting action, the dental laser performs soft tissue (gum) procedures with little or no bleeding and less post-op swelling.

Fewer Dental Visits

Previously when using shots and dental anesthesia to numb the mouth we were often limited to working on one area or another as we try to limit the amount of your mouth that is numb at one time. Since many of the procedures with the laser will not require the use shots or anesthesia, we can treat more problem areas at once, reducing the number of visits you’ll need to address dental issues.

*Discomfort is based on individual sensitivity to pain, and other factors. Not all patients can be treated painlessly without anesthetic. However, dentists using WaterLase to perform typical cavity preparations report not using anesthetic in the majority of cases.
